If you choose to take part in three or more of the following events in one season, you will automatically be part of the Series Competition – note you must take part in the final event in Mission Bay:
The points from your three best results will be added together and those athletes with the highest point totals at the end of the Series will place in their respective age groups.
It doesn’t matter whether you have entered your three or more events through a Series Pass or individual registrations, as long as your name and date of birth are the same across the individual event registrations, your points will be collated.
The age group category that a Series participant is automatically entered into will be determined by their age as at THE FIRST EVENT IN THE SERIES
In the case of two participants having equal maximum points, the winner will be decided as follows;
Event points are allocated based on where you finished relative to the winner in your age group – first placed male and female athletes in each of the age categories receive the full 100 points, and then subsequent swimmers are awarded points as a percentage of the winner’s time.
Eg. the swimmer who wins the 40-49yr women age group will receive the full 100 points. If the next athlete in this 40-49yr age group crosses the finish line directly after them they will receive a point figure close to 100 (eg. 97points) however if this second swimmer finishes further back from the winning athlete they would not receive as many points (eg. 70points).
Under 15, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80 & OVER
A participant’s Series Competition age group category is determined by their age as at November 6 (the date of the first event of the Series)
This means that any athletes who have a birthday within the summer season will remain in their original age group for the Series Competition and will earn their Series points based on where they finish compared to others within this Series Competition age group.
Please note that the individual event age group medals are always based on the swimmer’s age as of event day. This means athletes who have a birthday in the middle of the season could potentially earn a gold medal in their new individual event age group (based on age as of event day), but not receive the full 100 points for winning their Series Competition age group (age as of 22 January 2022).
E.g. if an athlete turns 50 in early January 2021, they will be in the 40-49yr age group for the Series Competition as they were 49yrs as at the start of the season. In events after their birthday, they will continue to earn their Series Competition points against their fellow athletes in the 40-49yr age group, however, if they are the first swimmer through in the 50-59yr age group for the finale in May they could win the individual event gold medal for the 50-54yr age group – but would not necessarily be awarded the full 100 series points unless they were also the winner in their 45-49yr Series Competition age group.
